Lot 4757
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 1.82 g, 12 h), Ticinum, June 326. Laureate head of Constantine I to right. Rev. CONSTAN/TINVS / AVG / S(crescent)T in four lines; above, laurel wreath. RIC -. Apparently unique. Slightly rough and with minor deposits, otherwise, about very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The anepigraphic, dynastic emission from Ticinum was unknown to Bruun and is not included in RIC VII. Indeed, the dynastic emission from Ticinum is extremely rare, with only nine examples known in total, of which two are held in Milan. The first example, for Constantine I, was published by Hill & Kent in 1960 (but not illustrated). It was reportedly from officina P, whereas the three other examples known are from the remaining three officinae S, T and Q. The emission was struck on Constantine's last stop before reaching Rome on 18 July for his vicennial celebrations.
